FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does block paving or a new patio cost?
Every driveway and patio is different — cost depends on the size of the area, the paving you choose, ground conditions, and how much clearance and preparation is needed. The best way to get an accurate price is a free, no-obligation quote, where we look at the space and talk through your options.
How long does a driveway or patio installation take?
A straightforward driveway or patio can often be completed within a few days. Larger jobs, or ones needing significant groundworks or drainage work, can take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeframe once we've seen the site.
Do I need planning permission for a new driveway in Southampton?
In most cases, no. Under permitted development rules, a new or replacement driveway doesn't need planning permission if it uses permeable or porous paving, or if rainwater is directed to a lawn, border or soakaway rather than the road. Non-permeable paving over 5 square metres draining towards the highway may need permission — check with Southampton City Council or the Planning Portal if you're unsure, and we're happy to talk it through.
What's the difference between block paving and patio paving?
Block paving typically uses smaller concrete paviors laid in a pattern such as herringbone, and is built to take vehicle weight — that's why it's the usual choice for driveways. Patio paving generally uses larger, flatter slabs designed for garden and outdoor living spaces. Both are laid on a properly prepared, compacted sub-base.
Do you remove and dispose of the old driveway or patio surface?
Yes — clearing the old surface, breaking it out and preparing the ground is all part of the job, so you're left with a clean, level base before any new paving goes down.
Which areas around Southampton do you cover?
We cover Southampton and the surrounding Hampshire area, including Eastleigh, Totton, Hedge End, Romsey and many more — see the Coverage page for the full list of areas we work in.
